“The Healthy Kids programme was a huge success at Hightown. The children were completely engaged in each session and thoroughly enjoyed each activity. Their levels of knowledge and understanding in relation to living a healthy lifestyle increased enormously over the course of the ten weeks. Each member of the Sprint Start team developed an excellent rapport with the children and it was through this strong relationship that they were able to support the children to achieve their goals.”

Matthew Robinson – Deputy Headteacher, Hightown Primary School.

Our Services
Sprint-Start has developed a hugely successful 10 week programme combining physical exercise and cooking workshops for children aged 7-10 years old. The programme called “Healthy Kids” has been run at a number of schools in the Southampton area and helps improve the understanding and importance of a healthy lifestyle, through the workshops that are held every week.

The programme introduces new skills and builds confidence to use these skills in every day life, whether it be playing sport at a local club or helping prepare dinner! Sprint-Start places a high priority on long term participation and development and provides information on the best ways to continue activities and links to clubs at the end of the 10 weeks.

We have recently developed INSET Day provision, Healthy Start days, After School club and Sports coaching that are all available to schools in the Hampshire & IOW region.

If you would like to find out more please do not hesitate to contact us.

We are always looking to develop and improve the services we can offer. The Sprint-Start Sports Foundation is an example of this. We will be expanding our services through the foundation to work with a larger number of children and young people in the Hampshire & IOW region.

Benefits

      Benefits of Sprint-Start

Sprint-Start offers a wide range of services that can benefit a schools,      pupils, teachers, councils and health bodies. Our services are flexible and can be tailored to your needs.

Unlike many providers we have the expertise to offer a total healthy lifestyle package incorporating both physical activity and cooking sessions.

         Benefits for Schools

  • All our staff are qualified and highly motivated to provide engaging, educational and fun sessions. We take great pride in being able to provide staff that build a good rapport with those they work with to provide the best results from the sessions.
  • All our staff have current enhanced CRB checks. Staff are First Aid trained and also attend regular NGO and UK Sport courses to keep up to date with issues related to sport and education, meaning we can provide the best possible level of service.
  • All sessions are thoroughly planned and assessed by our staff so we can provide a consistent level of delivery. Our Healthy Kids programme benefits from interactive workbooks that all the children taking part receive, so they can chart their progress and learn more about the programme outside of our workshop time.
  • Our staff will always monitor and supervise sessions and make sure that all participants are wearing / using appropriate clothing and equipment. In cases of adverse weather or unforeseen circumstances we have a contingency session in hand, so will rarely need to cancel a session!
  • If specialist equipment is required we can provide this. Many schools now have very good kit for most sessions and where possible we utilise this, but we have our own if required. We will ensure that all kit used is in good working order and not use equipment we feel to be substandard.
  • As part of our Healthy Kids programme we provide a written report for the school which details the progress of every individual pupil that completes the programme. this can then be used to highlight areas for development, whether it be as part of the IEP or the wider curriculum and OSHL provision. Our staff can also assist with progress reports for all our other activities if required with relation to our activities.
  • Olympic Athlete Iwan Thomas MBE is heavily involved with the running of our sessions and this is a fantastic opportunity for the children to learn about what it takes to be a top level athlete. We regularly hold assemblies for the schools we work with and Iwan can be on hand to make awards and show his collection of medals. Kids always enjoy this and talk about for weeks!!
  • Sprint-Start can also assist with or run a school sports day. this can be a great opportunity for publicity and also a vehicle for fundraising activities.

         Benefits for Pupils

  • Pupils will take part in a wide range of activities and often find new opprtunities and something they really enjoy and can continue in the future.
  • We keep group sizes small to enable high levels of attention and individual development.
  • Our staff will always encourage and drive pupils to maximise their attainment level. We teach about team work and it's benefits and pride in performance. Pupils are rewarded and encouraged throughout the sessions.
  • Sprint-Start always offers schools the opportunity to develop it's provision for pupils and expand the opportunities open to them. We strive to offer exit routes for further development, whether it be an after school club or information on local clubs they can join.
  • All pupils receive a certificate at the end of the programme or sessions.
  • Wherever possible we endeavour to keep a lasting relationship with schools and pupils through regular visits and support.

         Benefits for Teaching Staff

  • Help to ease the workload of teaching staff, as supervision of sessions not required.
  • We can assist with PPA provision to enable schools to better utilise this time.
  • Our specialist coaches and staff can pass on ideas that could be adopted in school.
  • Additional time to work with SENCO and develop IEPs.

         Other Benefits

  • We offer INSET day activities to enable pupils and parents to continue their daily routine. We do not require any input from teaching staff, so will not impact on their activities. All participants are fully supervised throughout the day.
